Hemp oil and CBD oil: the elixir of Cannabis Sativa
Moisturizers, anti-wrinkles, anti-inflammatories: hemp oil and CBD oil (cannabidiol oil) are increasingly used for quality cosmetic formulations based on hemp or Cannabis Sativa.
With a light green color and more intense nuances, hemp oil has a marked smell and a flavor similar to that of hazelnuts. It is obtained from the cold pressing of Cannabis Sativa seeds and is used both in the food and cosmetic fields. It is rich in substances that bring numerous benefits to our health and our skin, including the antioxidant fatty acids Omega-3 and Omega-6, minerals and vitamins (E, B1, B2, B6).
Cannabidiol or CBD, one of the non-psychoactive components of Cannabis Sativa, is extracted from flowers instead of the extract both from flowers and from different parts of the plant with a liquid, CO2 or oil-based solvent; the solvent is called carrier oil (hemp oil, coconut oil, olive oil, etc). Thus, cannabidiol or CBD oil is obtained which can still be processed to obtain the isolation of pure CBD crystals. Thanks to cannabidol and other components naturally produced by hemp such as phytocannabinoids (the most common are THC, CBG and CBD itself), terpenes, flavonoids and stilbenoids, this plant has been used for therapeutic purposes for thousands of years, for example to cure malaria, constipation and gout.
Hemp oil and CBD oil make the skin softer and more elastic, counteracting free radicals responsible for cellular aging and acting on wrinkles, smoothing them; they also have a high anti-inflammatory power and "potential for the treatment of many skin diseases, including acne vulgaris, allergic contact dermatitis, asteatotic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, ..." as stated in the research "Cannabinoids in dermatology: a scoping review ”, published in June 2018 in the“ Dermatology Online Journal ”.
Hemp or Cannabis Sativa (intended as legal or light) should not be confused with marijuana because, although they belong to the same plant species, they contain different amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, a psychotropic substance present in high percentage in the second. In Italy the production of legal cannabis sativa is regulated by law Law on Hemp December 2, 2016, n. 242, which establishes the limit of 0.2% for the maximum percentage of THC with a tolerance up to 0.6%. On May 30th, a sentence of the Cassation ruled that the sale or transfer for whatever reason of products "derived from the cultivation of cannabis", such as oil, leaves, inflorescences and resin is not legal and is not included in the The scope of application of Law 242 of 2016. There are many doubts and regulatory gaps in this regard and the main problem concerns the concentrations of THC.
Hemp oil contains neither CBD nor THC, while CBD oil can contain them in minimal percentages. The one contained in the new product Pugliami face and body, moisturizing and anti-aging, La Crema del Trullo, does not contain THC. We share the thought of Carl Sagan, astronomer and writer of popular sciences: "The illegality of cannabis is outrageous, an impediment to full utilization of a drug which helps produce the serenity and insight, sensitivity and fellowship so desperately needed in this increasingly mad and dangerous world".
